Bronze Age Trader Fable

I need help with my uncle. He’s embarrassing the family. He’s a trader at the square.

He will trade anyone 1 basket of figs for 3 amber fragments or 3 baskets of figs for 1 amber fragment.

Everyone from the locals to the travelers come and line up and point and laugh and trade their 1 amber fragment for 3 baskets of figs, calling my uncle a fool the whole time.

When I asked my uncle why he let himself be humiliated like this he told me that most people do not like figs, but everyone likes to feel smart.

I told him this didn’t make any sense. He replied the figs are just the boat for the trade.

I told him I didn’t understand. He told me I was sand-headed like my father.

Please help me reason with him. I’m worried his buyers will mob together and kill him when they figure out he sold them so many figs they do not like.
