Zack Fox is Funnier Than Your Favorite Rapper

In the hellscape that can be the content creator age Zack Fox is a solid reference for how you can do what you want, forge meaningful relationships with other creatives, and have a good time doing it.

In a less than ten year period, Zack Fox has shown that he has the rare duality of being able to shoulder the spotlight of his creative work as well as contribute behind the scenes.

What Does Zack Fox Do?

It’d be easier to try and make a list of what Zack Fox doesn’t do.

To be brief: He’s gotten an incredible amount of work off of joking and trolling on a twitter account. He’s been a: co-writer and actor in Kuso the horror comedy directed by Flying Lotus, host of a DOA live show, writer for the Eric Andre show, artist with Kenny Beats for a few viral singles, and is now releasing his first full length album: Shut the Fuck Up Talking To Me (Spotify/Apple Music).

The debut album follows his earlier singles, which is to say it’s a chaotic blend of violence and humor that plays fast and loose with the rules of rap for maximum entertainment.

Zack Fox and Kenny Beats: The First Songs

Zack Fox’s first song, Square Up (produced by Kenny Beats) is when I became aware of him in 2018.

The song is an anthem for throwing hands, and the music video did a perfect job of portraying the urge to smack the shit out of tyrant-like managers, crooked cops, thieves, and more.

While the production values and video were at a level rarely seen for a first single, Zack and Kenny would strike lightning a year later during a freestyle session that was equal parts rap and hip-hop comedy.

A freestyle that was never supposed to be professionally released quickly became one of Zack and Kenny’s most listened to tracks thanks to TikTok.

Jesus Is the One (I Got Depression) – Zack Fox & Kenny Beats

Best told by Kenny and Zack in their Genius video, a random studio session with a chance cameraman led to a hilarious cut of bars that’s popularity forced the duo’s hand into an official release.

Zack Fox and Kenny Beats sitting next to one another with text quoting kenny saying "This song is bigger than all the serious songs I'm working on. It's TikToks fault." Zack is laughing in the photo.
Zack mostly causes Kenny suffering. Screencap pulled from the Genius Youtube Video.

And there’s no doubt that it was the right move. The song itself has 15 million plays on youtube as of October 2021, and The Cave episode that created it has nearly 8 million views.

The wild viral success of Jesus Is The One helped to lay the groundwork for more singles like, The Bean Kicked In (which would end up on GTA V Flylo Radio) and Stick!.

Three other singles would release before Zack Fox’s first full length project.

Shut The Fuck Up Talking to Me Album

Released in full on October 15th from Parasang, Zack Fox’s Shut The Fuck Up Talking to Me is eight tracks and 1 skit with a run time of just under twenty minutes. Fans and other artists have shown nothing but love for the debut album.

Some of my favorite highlights from the album are Zack’s references to pro-wrestling (Damn, there’s a lotta rappers I would do the Stone Cold Stunner on), and his commitment to his absurdist gonzo-violence persona which takes over the spotlight for track 8, mexico; Iconic use of the gun cock sound effect, timed immaculately.

Unfortunately critics gonna critic for clicks. Thankfully, Kenny Beats responded in inspiring fashion.
